&you're only in trouble if you get caught
[ it was morbid curiosity that had him take the artifact. his father spent so much time with it and with almost nothing to do during the day but watch him sit in front of it, looking at images Darim couldn't see, it was only natural that a strong curiosity would form. he didn't think he'd get away with it - as good as Darim is, he's no match for the great Altaïr. by all accounts his father should have caught him before Darim was even an arm's length away from it, but somehow Darim did manage to get his hands on it. unfortunately, not having expected to get away with it, he hadn't actually come up with a plan for what to do when he did have it.
and that's how he ended up here. Darim recognizes it as Damascus - not a place he's been to very often, but has had enough missions here to be able to tell his location. but it's a far cry from where he last remembers being - his brother's house, empty of anyone save his father and himself. and he's still reeling from the surprise when he hears the call of the guards and he curses to himself. a careless mistake. he's wearing the bare minimum of armor and is hardly armed at all, but the Assassin's symbol is clear for all to see on his clothes and he rips the offending piece off, but it's too late, the damage is done. the guards already know what he is and they don't intend to let him get away just because he's hidden the thing that tipped them off. ]
